hola
ruy here. i design things for a living and film things because i can’t help it. born and raised in mexico city, canada from nine, these days i work from wherever i can get a good connection and a better view. home base toronto, but i’m on the road whenever life lets me.
01. day job
i’m a senior designer at paper crowns, a new york agency full of people who are way too good at this. we build brands, broadcast graphics and in-game cosmetics and so much more, so i spend a lot of time making games look loud.
along the way i’ve worked with call of duty, fifa, apex legends, halo, twitch, scuf, rolling loud, fatal fury, void energy and terroriser.
02. behind the camera
film is something i’ve always loved, and lately i’ve been going all in on it. right now that means short films with marquet films, vlogs about my own life, and shooting for friends whenever i get the chance.
03. currently learning
i’m leveling up my web and product design skills, figuring out how things work and not just how they look.
04. side quests
los hijos de benita is a sourdough micro-bakery brand i’m building from scratch with my family, from the logo to the loaf.
05. the rest
lifting, tennis, football, long runs with the music way too loud. i’m a full-time life enjoyer, and the work is better because of it.
06. working together
first, we talk. it’s a quick call to see if we actually click and if i’m the right person for what you need. if i’m not, i’ll tell you, and i’ll probably know someone who is.
if it’s a yes, we lock in the basics: what we’re making, what it needs to do, the budget and the timeline. no guessing, no surprises later.
then i’ll send you some questions to answer in writing. calls are great for vibes, but written answers are what i keep coming back to while i work.
after that it depends on the project.
for design, i start with references and moodboards so we agree on a feeling before anything gets made. then concepts. then we pick one together and push it until it’s right.
for film, it’s idea, script, shot list, shoot, edit, sound. i check in at every step, because changing the story after it’s shot costs a lot more than changing it on paper.
revisions are part of the plan, not a problem. i’d rather get it right than get it done fast.
you walk away with files you can use, and work you’re proud to post.
let’s work
